We are a nation and a world desperate for men and women of God to lead. Today you begin or continue that journey. As Joshua directed the people of Israel I also direct you, “Choose this day who you will serve.” As leaders in this modern world we can be tempted to follow the latest fad or chase after money, fame or power. Will you serve those idols or will you choose to serve the King of Kings and Lord of Lords?
Read Nehemiah chapter 1
When I am totally honest with myself I recognize the potential evil that resides in me. My flesh is demanding and often calls loudly for me to obey it. It sounds to me like the apostle Paul also dealt with that issue.
I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should. Otherwise, I fear that after preaching to others I myself might be disqualified. -1 Corinthians 9:27
When we take the time to confess this wickedness that is within us and cry out to God remorse for this painful portion of ourselves, He is faithful. He will consistently give you a way out of sin’s clutches.
No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it. 1 Corinthians 10:13
I love Jesus and it is my greatest desire to be faithful to Him. All sin is dishonoring to the King. All sin can potentially disqualify me for service in the Kingdom. I must work to ensure that my relationship with Him is strong. He may never leave me, nor forsake me; but He will step back and let me see what life might be like without Him. Take time to DAILY examine yourself in light of the Scriptures. Ask the Holy Spirit to search you and know you and reveal any wickedness. See confession as an opportunity to experience all that God has for us.
Remember the promises of God. Be confident in those promises. Often when we think of the promises of God we focus in on those that sound good to us. Never forget, my noble brothers and sisters, that the promises of His judgments are also going to come to pass if we do not repent and make things right. Search the Scriptures and take note of His promises.
Keep in mind who it is that you belong to Christ. Submit to the King. Yes it is an honor to be His servant. His standards are high, but so is His mercy and grace. The rewards of following Him in obedience include a relationship with Him. His relationship brings peace to your heart. His peace is complete and true regardless of physical circumstances. Choose today to follow ALL of His commands.
James 4:7-10 Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. 9Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom. 10Humble yourselves before the LORD, and he will lift you up.
Notice, Nehemiah is not praying alone. Others are also seeking the King and humbling themselves before Him. It really is a delight to reverence this God that so loves us. Make it your one desire to hear, “Well done good and faithful servant.”
Seek for long term blessing to the King.
Noah preached and 8 people were saved but all believers today can trace their Spiritual roots to him. Jonah preached and thousands were saved in Nineveh but a generation or two later not one person could be found there that served the Lord. Aim for community life transformation. Pray for a Great Awakening.
