We are a nation and a world desperate for men and women of God to lead. Today you begin or continue that journey. As Joshua directed the people of Israel I also direct you, “Choose this day who you will serve.” As leaders in this modern world we can be tempted to follow the latest fad or chase after money, fame or power. Will you serve those idols or will you choose to serve the King of Kings and Lord of Lords?
Read Nehemiah chapter 4
The theme of chapter 4 is in the Face of Opposition
If you are doing God’s work you will be opposed. This is an absolute truth. Every prophet in Scripture, every leader and even Jesus, himself, was opposed. Yet today in the American church have become soft and desire comfort over faithfulness to Jesus. Maybe we should pray as a French paratrooper prayed during World War II.
Nehemiah 4: 13-14
Often times as a leader you will really want to ignore some issue because you are focused on bigger fish and the issues that come up typically are not on your planner. But as a leader we must develop a radar for potential issues. This is the power of the Leadership by Walking around model. Walk through your area of authority and get a sense for what normal looks like, smells like and feels like. Like a Jedi, stretch out your emotions and try to feel the emotions of those around you. Feel into your community. Developing this sense will enable you to
Our enemy the devil prowls around looking for who he might devour. In order to be successful he must embrace secrecy and darkness. He must work in the shadows. My noble brothers and sisters, you leader of lions, you man or woman of God must use the light. Use light to dispel the darkness. The darkness cannot stand the light. Bring out the light as often as you can and call all men to draw near to God. This is His desire.
James 4:7-8 Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
When we connect with the Creator, all things can be made new. The enemy is looking for the weak. When you stand strong in the Lord and show the enemy who it is that you belong to, he will be forced to flee.
address issues quickly.
Ignoring issues is not a good strategy. Hoping that these issues simply go away on their own is typically not the wisest course of action.
As you walk through and discuss concerns with the right people at the right time remind people of who God is and what He is capable of accomplishing, if we trust in Him. If there are issues there will be fear, fear can only be defused with Truth.
Develop your strategy.
Stay dedicated to MAIN mission
Let you people see you lead. Above all else you are an example. If you walk past trash blowing across the parking lot they will too. If you fail to take vacations or go home at a reasonable hour they too will fail. If you choose work over family they will too. Lead your people and watch the world get changed.
Know yourself, know your enemy.
