The Rise of the Spiritual Leader Volume 34

We are a nation and a world desperate for men and women of God to lead.  Today you begin or continue that journey.  As Joshua directed the people of Israel I also direct you, “Choose this day who you will serve.”  As leaders in this modern world we can be tempted to follow the latest fad or chase after money, fame or power.  Will you serve those idols or will you choose to serve the King of Kings and Lord of Lords?

Read Nehemiah chapter 10

The theme of chapter 10 is Obedience

Once we have repented of our rebellion it becomes easier but no less deliberate to begin to live in obedience to God.

Nehemiah 10:30

While it is difficult in our world the Spiritual Leader must seek purity.  Do not let your mind and body dwell on things of the flesh.  Seek purity of purpose, purity in relationships, purity in motives and so much more.

Guard your heart more than anything else, because the source of your life flows from it. -Proverbs 4:23

For the Spiritual Leader this must be a disciplined focus.  Examine your thought life.  Are you filled with hatred, lust, greed or any other sin? Are you judging situations based on too little information?  Are you living a selfish life?

Pray for purity.  Make this a standard prayer in your life.

Memorize Scriptures around purity.

Be honest and quit justifying your sin.  You can make any Scripture make your sin ok if you analyze it enough.  We must accept that the Old Testament and the New Testament are there for our teaching and training.  Do not explain away your sin saying, “That is for the ancient Hebrews and not for me.”  All of God’s Word has a principle that we must examine.

2 Timothy 3:16-17 New International Version (NIV)

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,  so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

Nehemiah 10:31

Take the command of God to rest seriously.

-

Take 1 out of 7 days to rest.  We can debate what day is the Sabbath Day but the principle is to recharge and unplug from the daily grind.  The life on the go, will wear you out and actually make you less productive.  Stop and Re Create the life that lives in you.  Do something, anything out of the ordinary.  Read deeply, explore a museum, walk through the woods.  Experience something different. This can be among the most healing thing you can do in your life.

Nehemiah 10: 32-33

A Spiritual Leader is willing to sacrifice for their community.  There are easy things to do, multiple ideas of things that we can accomplish that will make our community better.  Go out and sacrifice your time to mentor a young man or woman.  Give yourself fully to your family.  Give up comfort for the sake of the Gospel.  Remember that Jesus paid it all.  He was all in and gave up the glories of Heaven for a season to walk amongst us.
