We are a nation and a world desperate for men and women of God to lead. Today you begin or continue that journey. As Joshua directed the people of Israel I also direct you, “Choose this day who you will serve.” As leaders in this modern world we can be tempted to follow the latest fad or chase after money, fame or power. Will you serve those idols or will you choose to serve the King of Kings and Lord of Lords?
Read Nehemiah chapter 3
The theme of chapter 3 is Together!
Together we make a great impact on our families and communities. Look for allies and move us toward building our wall.
The leader invites in others. Some of these that you invite in will not look like you, act like or think like you. This is to our benefit. We must reach out and connect with these. Even a local event can get the benefit of a global movement when you are deliberate to connect with and invite in others that are different. An interesting concept that you can see in the book of Acts 6. In this case the Hellenistic Jews were feeling left out. These are the minority. This would be the white folks in a primarily African American Church or an African American man or woman in a primarily white church. This is also could be the young in a primarily elderly church or women in a church made up mostly of men. To solve the difficulties they chose the minority to take the leadership positions. Elevate the minority to positions of power and influence.
For many the focus of race relations has been acceptance. That is a good first step. But what about taking the opportunity to find out what this person of a different race or culture can add from his or her world to enhance our own? What has his or her culture given to society that you may not be aware of at this point in your life?
Over the past several years we have learned that we could not have gotten men to the moon if it were not for African American Women. We could not have won World War II without African American combat troops. We would have struggled for any hope to win World War II in the Pacific without the Navajo. There is more but you get the point.
Nehemiah 3: 8
We see business is involved in this movement. They offer jobs, training and purpose to people’s lives. We need to quit looking at wealth as evil and seek how we can work together.
Local leaders step up! Leaders at all levels can make a major difference. Is that you?
We see a listing of assorted people working in front of their own homes! This is great wisdom. As a leader help your followers find a reason to be motivated. The best way to do this is to make it personal. I help men and women trapped in addiction because I have lost two relatives to addiction. I can’t get them back but I can reach out and help others. Maybe someone else will not feel the same loss that I have.
