1 Peter 1:13-16 New International Version (NIV)
Therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober, set your hope on the grace to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming. As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.”
How can we live lives of self-control? Our sinful natures are constantly warring against the good that God has placed within us. Jesus has given us a new heart that has total control over our entire being unless we choose to ignore it. The Holy Spirit dwells in our entire beings. Allow Him to work all things out of you. There is no temptation that can prevent us from following the commands of God.
So take control of your desires and passions and submit them to the Lord of all Glory who gave them to you to use for His pleasure and His glory. Do not misuse your talents, do not become selfish in your passions. Instead seek how God can take your passions and desires and use them to become a benefit to your family, your community and your world. Our desires will then have a deeper impact on our legacy and upon how we see God.
