Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us,
It will take a deliberate effort but we must surround ourselves with others who are also on this quest for holiness. I do not mean that we should be snobby and sniff at others who are living in the world. We should not ignore our brothers and sisters who are living as casual Christians. But if we are to grow in our holiness we must surround ourselves with others who desire to live holy and authentic lives. We must fellowship with them. We must laugh, cry and confess with them. This can become a holy community dedicated to the life of Christ. How do we respond to oppression and disasters great and small as a community of believers. As we can learn from Nehemiah, we pray and then act. Too many in the church are doing this out of order or are only doing one of those things and disaster has followed. This holy fellowship must be built around the love of Christ that calls us to love each other enough to call each other upwards. The fellowship must be like an athletic coach who pushes and prods the athlete to excel. Where are the Spiritual coaches pushing us to find Christ in the simple and the complex?
We must find this fellowship with others if we are to endure and overcome the difficulties that keep us from a life of holiness.
