History & Future

The History

The Gospel Rescue Mission (GRM) was founded in 1931 in the heights of the Great Depression and the beginning of the infamous dustbowl.  Ever since then GRM has been the Muskogee Area’s primary resource to help those who are struggling in the crisis of hunger, homelessness and hopelessness.

Matthew 25:35-36 has been the guiding message for the mission since it’s founding and is carried out each month through the serving 3,000 meals, clothing over a hundred individuals, and providing over 1,100 bed-nights to the homeless in Muskogee.

“I was hungry and you gave me something to eat; I   was thirsty and you gave me drink; I was a stranger   and you invited me in; I was naked and you clothed   me” – Matthew 25:35-36

The GRM Building at 326 S 2nd St has been the home of the mission since the 1940s.

The Future

The future home of the GRM on Callahan Street.

In 2014, The Gospel Rescue Mission was donated the Muskogee Day Care Building on Callahan St. Plans are underway to move the Mission’s rescue services to this building in 2016. This move will be one of the biggest changes in the history of the GRM and is the start of a new vision for the ministry where we strive to go beyond the rescue operation and seek to restore lives. You can read about the plans for moving into this facility, constructing another building at the new location, and expanding our services by reviewing our Strategic Plan  (Click Here). The strategic plan is based on letting God use our decades of experience and hard work in caring for the hungry, homeless and hopeless.  We look forward to seeing what He can accomplish through our new services designed to help our guest regain control of their lives.

The Future

The future home of the GRM on Callahan Street.

In reality a building is simply a tool.  The above is the dream facility that will serve more people, better.  We have huge dreams and we will need everyone to help us on our quest to propel 6667 people to live and maintain life above the federal poverty line.  Soon we will be announcing details of the capital campaign that will help make this dream come true.

For now imagine a man or woman or family coming to the above facility experiencing homelessness, hunger and hopelessness and leaving OWNING a home, able to FEED themselves and full of HOPE for the future.  All living on their own with no individual government benefits and members of one of our great local churches.  You can help make that happen.
